Forest School for All

The Nature of Learning Foundation makes grants to enable children, young people and adults who may otherwise be excluded by socio-economic factors or disability to access educational opportunities in the natural world, offered by recognised Forest School Association providers.

What We Do

Removing barriers to nature-based education across the East of England

Forest School Access

We fund places at FSA-registered Forest School providers for children and families who couldn't otherwise attend, including those with SEND and complex needs.

1:1 Support Funding

We fund dedicated 1:1 support workers so children with additional needs like autism, ADHD and PDA can safely access Forest School sessions.

For Those Most In Need

We prioritise disadvantaged children, young carers, home-educated children, and those out of school who have no other access to outdoor learning.

Our Projects

Forest School SEND Support

Our main project funds 1:1 support staff and subsidised session fees for children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities attending weekly Forest School sessions. Children with autism, ADHD, PDA and high anxiety are able to access outdoor learning in a safe, low-arousal environment.

Impact reports show children developing emotional regulation, social confidence, physical skills and independence -- many attending sessions without a parent for the first time.

Subsidised Places for Families

We fund Forest School places for families facing financial hardship, including single-parent families, young carers, and home-educated children who have limited access to group activities. For many of these children, Forest School is the only structured group learning they can access.

One parent described the sessions as a "much needed lifeline" providing routine, a stable friend group, and a wider family network.

What Families Say

Real words from families whose children attend funded Forest School sessions

"The sessions have been a much needed lifeline. Without the funding, my child would still be at home, isolated, with no routine and no friends."

Parent of a home-educated child with ADHD

"Children who had never been able to separate from their parents are attending independently. Children who had no friends now have a group who expect them to be there. They belong."

Impact report, Winter 2025

"The consistency has changed everything. They have a friendship group. They have in-jokes. They have plans for next week. Those friendships have even extended beyond Forest School."
